First IFLA Meeting of Experts on an International Cataloguing Code
Review of areas comparing the codes
Each overview will cover the structure of current rules (overview of the scope, structure, and general principles behind each code) and information on how the code handles:
- Paris Principles (main and added entries - what is done differently from Paris Principles in your rules?)
- ISBDs (what do you do differently from ISBDs in your rules?)
- Personal names (especially differentiation of names - form of names - can we compare them to AACR? To show how same or different? And get the AACR rule makers to explain how names are treated. What is done for "bibliographic identities"? What elements are used to make names unique or is uniqueness even an issue? What information is kept in authority records for personal names?)
- Corporate bodies (What entities are considered corporate bodies? The logic of splitting, treatment of conferences.)
- Seriality issues (What changes warrant a new record?)
- Multipart structures (identification of works/expressions; underlying principle of identifying all the works; issues of inventorys control of volumes in a library's holdings - apart from bibliographic control; etc.)
- Uniform titles (including General Material Designations (GMDs) and Expression level citations)
The goal of the conference is to build understanding of the differences and similarities among existing codes, to harmonise the different entities and to provide a list of minimal practical proposals for corporate identity.
The goal is also to gain understanding of the variations for bibliographic sharing of records; to provide recommendations for addressing the collocation of bibliographic records by form of expression or format.
