MACS (MULTILINGUAL ACCESS TO SUBJECT HEADINGS)
Objective
The goal is to produce an unmediated linkage between the subject headings in the three comprehensive subject heading authority files, comprised of the Rameau, Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) und Subject Heading Authority Files (SWD). Thus, a subject search interface in German, English and French is provided, transcending linguistic barriers. For this, a prototype was initially developed to offer the functions of link management as well as a retrieval system, including a user interface specially developed for this purpose. The further development of MACS is being carried out in co-operation with the Swiss National Library under the umbrella of CENL. The German National Library is participating in this within the framework of the CrissCross-Projekt.
