BOOKSELLER PORTRAITS
Objective
3,300 portraits of booksellers, bookprinters and publishers from the 17th to the 20th century - a hitherto unpublished part of a special collection of the Deutsches Buch- und Schriftmuseum of the German National Library - has been catalogued and digitised in accordance with library and museum standards. It represents unique source material for book and publishing history. Use of the norm data of the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (Name Authority File, Subject Headings Authority File, Corporate Body Authority File) and the ICONCLASS classification for describing image content permits Internet-based access in different presentation and search systems. The portrait collection is currently digitally accessible in the local system of the Deutsches Buch- und Schriftmuseum and, together with selected metadata and digitised content, in the Bildindex der Kunst und Architektur (Marburg Picture Library).
