SWD subject groups

The SWD subject groups (systematic numbers or systematic notations of subject headings) are a hierarchic search possibility; they are organised in 36 main groups mainly several times subdivided. Systematic numbers are allocated for name subject headings, topical subject headings, corporate body subject headings and for subject headings used for corporate bodies tied to the location, for works of art and similar items.

Presently not usable systematic numbers are printed in italic and are marked with a *.

In the systematic order and its index as well as in the SWD itself the older German grammar is being applied, as long as the Duden allows it as an alternative.
