New Release Service - Procedure for entries

The publishers announce new titles in one sole procedure for the Verzeichnis lieferbarer Bücher (German Books in Print, VLB) and the New Release Service issued by the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (German National Library). The all new title announcements which also appear in the VLB.

The following procedure for entries is:

• The publishers announce new titles exclusively to the VLB editing office via Internet (VLB title service), ONIX or paper printout.

• The VLB passes the entries on to the German National Library.
• The titles will be cited in the New Release Service of the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, sorted according to the subject groups of the Deutsche Nationalbibliografie.
• Publishers may print the following bibliographic information in the publication:

• In accordance with the law regulations for Legal Deposit the publishers deliver two legal deposit copies to the German National Library in Frankfurt am Main or in Leipzig, depending on which has authority for the region in question. Complementary copies from abroad have to be send to the German National Library in Leipzig.
• On arrival the titles are indexed by autopsy in their bibliographic description and in their contents and cited in the Deutsche Nationalbibliografie.

The obligation to submit two legal deposit copies of all publications released in Germany applies to all publishers, regardless of whether they participate in the VLB and the New Release Service or not.
