German National Library in Leipzig

A public tour of the library generally takes place on the third Sunday of every month. The tour begins at 11 am. It is not necessary to apply in advance; the tour costs EUR 2.00 per person. The permanent exhibition of the Deutsches Buch- und Schriftmuseum is currently closed due to construction work, meaning that no tours are possible in the Museum until further notice.

We also offer tours for groups (of 7 to a maximum of 20 people) between 9 am and 3 pm from Monday to Friday. During the tour, visitors are informed about the work of the library and its history. Information about the building itself is also given. The different types of services available are merely outlined. School groups are permitted from year 11. The fee for the guided tour is EUR 2.00 per person.

Coats, jackets and umbrellas must be deposited in the cloakroom before starting the tour. Applications for the tour should be submitted at least two weeks before the required date.

We offer an introduction to using the catalogues of the German National Library on the second Tuesday of every month. This takes roughly one hour and starts at 3 pm from the entrance foyer. It is only necessary for groups to apply in advance (by phone on + 49-341-2271-453 or by email to info-l@dnb.de).
