Online university publications

The German National Library has collected online dissertations and post-doctoral theses since July 1998; it currently manages the metadata format XMetaDiss and the transfer interface (available only in German) for online university publications. Submission and administrative processes have been tested on the basis of the experience gained in the last few years.

The Co-ordination Agency DissOnline (Koordinierungsstelle DissOnline) was established in February 2001 at the German National Library; this has been supported in individual projects by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) since 2005, e. g. in setting up a "portal for online dissertations". The aim of this project is to interlink the electronic dissertations and post-doctoral theses, including documents offered by commercial providers, and to incorporate appropriate access methods. The website dissonline.de provides further information on the topic of "Digital dissertations on the Internet".
