Cataloguing

Online publications are catalogued in conformity with the currently applicable standards.

Here the German National Library has the following objectives:

• Automatic cataloguing of online publications on the basis of metadata, where possible
• Similar to printed publications, online publications are recorded in the Deutsche Nationalbibliografie and in the catalogue of the German National Library
• Use of persistent identifiers to ensure permanent addressing and long-term quotability of online publications

To permit more effective use of metadata later, the German National Library has defined a core metadata set for monographs, containing the metadata required by the German National Library. This requires not only the bibliographic data but also rights information. Work is currently in progress to include further types.
